Mrs.
Babcock’s First Grade
When we come to school, we hang up our backpacks.
Then we put down our chairs and if we have a note or snack money, we
put that in a basket that goes up to Mrs. Lawrence and the kitchen.
Then we sit down and Mrs. Babcock will ask us if we have our own snack
or if we have any snack money.
This year, we have a snack cart that comes outside
our room. When it is snack time, Mrs. Babcock calls us to get our snack
money and go outside to the cart. Mrs. Barnes sells snacks in the hall.
She sells cheddar cheese, fruit, juice, water, Sun Chips, and ABC
crackers. She also
has tiny graham crackers to sell.
We
have
to
do a lot of work in first grade. In
kindergarten, we got to play a lot. We miss the playing time. In
kindergarten, sometimes we had 4 recesses. This year, we have one
recess a day after lunch. We like to play on the monkey bars. We
used to be able to go on the top of the bars last year, but this year,
we were told we can't hang upside down. Our bottoms can't be higher
than our heads on the bars. We also like to go on the black
monkey bars
with the chain. We have a new piece of equipment that is blue monkey
bars. They are different because they are zigzag.
Our lunch is different this year. We have lunch with
the fifth and sixth graders and some days, the kindergarten. Sometimes
we can sit whereever we want in the cafeteria. Some of our favorite
lunches are chicken patties, yogurt and a bagel, and homemade mac and
cheese. We also love chef salad!
We like to go to the library to get new
books. The
library is different this
year, because it is smaller. We miss the
steps in the library where we used to sit and read our books. There are
lots of good new books, even one about wolf spiders.
We go to art. Art class is awesome. We made
caterpillars out of paper. We cut them out and then we decorated them
with
craypas. The next time we went we used paint on them and the
craypas
design showed through the paint. We made leaves out of clay. We used a
real leaf to make the pattern and we carved around the clay. We painted
them with glaze. Mrs. Parsons put them in the kiln to make them hard.
We have music in school. We like to listen to silly
songs. We do clap patterns with Mrs. Ross. We might clap,
"Apples, apples, applesauce!"
We have Physical Education classes in the gym.
Excercising is good. If we do a good job exercising, we can play games
in the class.
In Technology, we play on the computer. We do
Starfall, Trudy's Time and
Place, and draw
with the computer.
Mrs. Babcock has two guided reading groups. Some
students go to Ms. Matteson's class for reading. Ms. Blake also takes a
group. We read little books and chapter books.
We learn about odd and even numbers in math.
We also
sometimes have to fill in what number comes next.
We think this year is great. We like to have free
choice time. We like everything about first grade.
