Mrs. Pudvar's Fourth Grade

Mrs. Pudvar is a fun teacher. She likes to go boating in the summer. This year, she rented an RV and traveled from Salt Lake City, Utah to Las Vegas, Nevada  with her family.
Everyday, we do D.O.L. which stands for Daily Oral Language. Mrs. Pudvar puts up a sheet on the projector with two sentences that need to be corrected. It might need capitals or punctuation corrected. After we have tried to fix the sentences by ourselves, then someone from the class goes up and corrects it. If you didn't get it right, then you are supposed to fix your work.
Mrs. Pudvar loves math. She likes to have us learn our multiplication facts. We have made flashcards that we wear at school. We wear the flashcards because whenever we have free time, we can study them. We have skill power packets. They are packets with math facts on them. We do them for homework and sometimes, during free time at school. Every month or so, we get tested on the facts. If we know them, we get a different packet. Some of us are in addition and some are in subtraction.

Mrs. Pudvar likes to teach writing. She likes us to write paragraphs. We are doing a science experiment about light and shadow. She likes us to write a paragraph about what we saw in the experiment. She loves to do experiments. So do we! Learning by doing experiments is the best.
We learned about Rules and Laws. We studied King George III, he was the king of England and France. Some people left there and moved to the 13 colonies. King George said he would protect the colonists if they paid him. The colonists didn't have a lot of money and they didn't think that the king was doing anything good for them. They started the American Revolution. We studied about the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
She does reading with us. Some of us have groups for reading, a few of us go over to Mrs. Weldon's class for reading. We are reading Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl. We have to answer some questions. Some are on, some are off and a few are in between. That means, that a question that was on  would be a question about some information  that was found in the book. A between question would be answered with some information from the book and some from your head! Rarely is a question off, but an off question would be one that is not from the book at all, but just from your own experience or thinking.
This is the second year that we are using Writers. We use them everyday after we are done D.O.L. We are supposed to get to 15 words per minute typing speed. We do assessments and typing lessons on them.
In fourth grade, we can be in the Ferrisburgh School Band. Over half of our class is in band. Mr. Bowers is the band teacher and he is very nice. There are a lot of different instruments that you can play in band.  There are lots of people in our school that are in band. In the spring, we will march in the Memorial Day parade.
We went on a Hike for Hunger at our school. We walked with the third and fourth graders. We had a sheet that asked people to donate money to the Hike for Hunger. We made over $500. The money will go to children that are hungry in Vermont.
We got new equipment for the playground. You can go on the new piece of equipment from one end to the other without touching the ground. Parents helped put the equipment up. We think it is very nice.
As you can see, this school year is going to be a very good one. We are very busy, learning a lot and having a lot of fun. We are glad to be in the fourth grade.
