Mr. Stapleford's Sixth Grade
Mr. Stapleford makes
our day a lot easier to enjoy. He is creative, unpredictable, and
he is loud. He knows how to make people laugh. He is serious but not
always. He shows us that older people can have fun. He is
teaching us how to use the smart board and how to use the
computers. He loves the Boston Red Sox.
Never make a bet
with him, you will always lose.
Our sixth grade class is very active. We have 9 boys
and 9
girls. We get a lot of opportuni
ties
that other classes do not get to do because we are now sixth graders!
In October, we read Where the Red
Fern Grows. At the end of the reading period we had our
sixth grade camp
out inside the gym,
but we only got to do the lantern walk to Otter Creek. We set up tents in the gym
because the weather was supposed bad. We ended up going to sleep
at 2:30 and woke up at 7:00. We got to play games in the dark.
We have done quite a few field trips this year. We
went to Kingsland
Bay where we did a Hike for Hunger.
We
also
went to
Kingsland Bay and Button Bay for team building. We got to paddle a
canoe, see the wetlands and a marsh. We went to Chimney Point Historic
Site Museum and learned how to use an atlatl. You
have a throwing
spear that you launch using the atlatl. We went over the New York
Bridge to Crown
Point. There we watched a movie that was about the
French Indian war. After which, we went outside to look at Fort St.
Fredric. Then a few of us ran around the outer side of the fort
that was made up of hills.
We went on a whale
watching tri
p to Rye,
NH. When we got to Rye, we went on a boat called the Granite State. The
crew had a naturalist that told us all about whales. We got to see
krill
and baleen.
We
spotted right whales and a finback whale. We saw
a right
whale mother and her calf.
During wintertime, we will go to nursing
homes and sing for elderly people.
At the end of this year, we are taking a
trip to Canada. It should be
awesome. We are taking a Premiere bus. We
will stay there for three days. We will go to museums and see
government buildings in Ottawa.
We will go to Upper
Canada Village.
When we are not going on a field trip, we are
working hard with our teachers. We always try and have fun in our
classes. All in all, our sixth grade class measures up to one of the
best in the state. We are proud of our class and happy to be sixth
graders!
